Working class Unionists want their fair share of Council money - that’s the view of PUP councillor Russell Watton.

The Causeway Coast Glens only PUP member was speaking after Wednesday night’s special meeting of Council, at which members turned down £2.5 million funding for a sport and leisure facility in Dungiven.

Watton, who voted against the Dungiven proposal told The Times: “I was concerned about the £380,000 shortfall in funding.

“It was proposed that this money would come out of a Council landfill tax of £120,000 - this is money to be used by Council where they see fit.

“That entire pot of money would be used on this Dungiven project - no other project in the COuncil area would get any money.

“Would Sinn Fein agree to a project in a predominantly Unionist area?”

Watton went on: “Working class Unionists in this area want their fair share of council windfalls and I for one, will make sure that they get it,” he concluded
