British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland (BHF NI) is asking the Rasharkin community to vote for their local nominee in its annual Heart Hero Awards.
The awards recognise and celebrate the heart research charity’s supporters, fundraisers, volunteers and patients who have made an exceptional contribution to the fight against heart disease.
This year’s winners will be announced at a special ceremony in Belfast City Hall later this year.
The Rasharkin nominee is little John Gray Jnr. At two weeks old, John’s parents Bridget and John discovered he had a heart defect and had to be flown to Birmingham for emergency surgery.
He has since had three more operations and is only three years old. Throughout all of this, his parents had the strength and bravery to make people aware of John’s condition and the importance of research in helping people like John survive.
Jayne Murray Head of BHF NI said: “The amazing Rasharkin nominee is a perfect example of the extraordinary contribution made by people living with heart disease and their families as well as well as the doctors, nurses and other health professionals giving them exceptional standards of care.
“We are proud to be recognising their efforts in our annual Heart Hero Awards and we wish them all the best of luck for the final ceremony.”
