Justice Minister David Ford says the use of police helicopters in Londonderry at night is a matter for the Chief Constable Matt Baggott.

Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey asked what action his Department was taking to minimise disruption to people in the Londonderry area when PSNI helicopters are used at night.

Mr Ford said it was a matter for Matt Baggott.

He stated: “The deployment of the PSNI helicopter is an operational matter for the Chief Constable. I am committed to respecting the operational independence of the Chief Constable and the role of the Policing Board.

“You may therefore wish to direct your question to the PSNI.”
