Tributes paid to Larne Borough Councillor Rachel Rea

Tributes have been paid to former Larne Borough Council member Rachel Rea MBE, who passed away at the age of 93 on July 6.

Mrs Rea served on the council for nearly thirty years, and was Deputy Mayor on two occasions.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Billy Ashe led the tributes to the Carnalbanagh woman as he announced her passing at a council meeting.

DUP Councillor Gregg McKeen stated: “Mrs Rea undertook long and dedicated service for rural residents in Carnalbanagh and Glenarm, she was well known and well respected.”

Cllr Gordon Lyons, who succeeded Mrs Rea in the Coast Road constituency, added: “She worked hard for all of her constituents, regardless of their background or religion and as a result she won the respect of people from right across the community.”

Coast Road TUV Councillor Ruth Wilson added: “I would like to pay tribute to Rachel Rea, one of the first women in local politics with 35 years respected and distinguished service to our local community”.
