A BALLYMONEY man witnessed a ‘moo’raculous sight when a cow was rescued from Drumaheagles Marina.
Fire fighters battled to free the animal after it became trapped between the base of a jetty and a steel retainer at the site.
Thomas Rock from the town explained: “I witnessed a dramatic cow rescue on Sunday 18th September. It took place at Drumaheagles Marina, three miles from Ballymoney town.
“An emergency call was made at 4.30pm, stating that the animal had become trapped between the base of the jetty and a steel retainer which was around the edge of the land. There was no space either side of the animal and the only way was forward as the area around it was very confined.
“The first fire crew from Ballymoney arrived at 4.41pm, followed by a second crew. Group Commander White and Station Commander O’Neill were also on scene.
“A NIFRS specialist animal rescue team from Omagh and a local vet were also on route to incident, but the animal managed to free it’s self with the help of the fire service and a rope, before their arrival.
“Both the cow and it’s owner were very relieved after the ordeal and the farmer praised the fire service for there rescue skills, which concluded with a very happy ending.”
