Took foolish decision to drive court told

When his pregnant ex-partner contacted him to say she was feeling ill a 28-year-old man decided to drive to see her even though he had been drinking.

Laimonas Baltramaitus, Mourne Road, Lurgan, was banned from driving for 14 months last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He was also fined £175 for driving with excess alcohol on July 12 this year.

The court heard that there was a road traffic accident at Lough Road, Lurgan, in the early hours of the morning when a car crashed into a traffic light.

Baltramaitus was standing outside the vehicle which was registered to him. The keys were in the ignition. The defendant smelled of alcohol and an evidential breath test gave a reading of 85.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had been drinking in a friend’s house. He did not have his car with him and returned home by taxi before going to bed.

The solicitor explained that Baltramaitus got a call from his pregnant ex-partner who said she was not feeling well. He made the foolish decision to drive. He took a shower and felt okay to drive.
