SINN Fein councillor Colum Thompson says a proposed youth employment scheme involving Moyle District Council is now a step closer to being rolled out after council staff held a meeting with The Department Of Employment and Learning .
The councillor said the youth employment scheme is his brainchild.
Councillor Thompson, who aattended the meeting, said “The meeting with DEL was positive and informative and they are keen to facilitate Moyle District Council in launching the project. At the meeting all departments within council were represented and officers identified a number of projects and areas where young people could come in and contribute in a meaningful way.
“It is important that any youth employment scheme which council moves forward with presents young people with high quality training, work experience and qualifications. Youth unemployment is becoming an increasing problem, particularly in Moyle where up to one in every four under the age of twenty five is currently out of work.”
