YOU asked us to bring them back and we have!

On Wednesday, March 20, Ballymoney Borough Arts Committee warmly welcomes the brilliant Apex Jazz Band back to Ballymoney Town Hall.

Formed way back in 1966 by trumpet player George Chambers, the Apex Jazz Band, steeped in the tradition of New Orleans Jazz, is arguably Ireland’s longest established and most successful jazz band.

Throughout the years the Apex has appeared all over Ireland at festivals, concerts and jazz club sessions and has made numerous radio and TV appearances for BBC, Ulster Television and RTE. It has also performed all over Europe and USA and continues to increase in popularity, presenting its music in a hugely enjoyable and entertaining manner.

Marches, spirituals, rags, blues, stomps and pop tunes from the jazz age are all present in an entertaining programme which includes material from Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, George Lewis, Kid Ory, Bunk Johnston et al.

Trombonist George Kidd played with The Storyville Jazz Band and the West Coast Jazz Band before taking a lead role with the nationally famous George Penman Jazzmen. He has played with many of the world’s top traditional jazz musicians - George Chisholm, Humphrey Lyttleton, Wild Bill Davison, Acker Bilk, Monty Sunshine, Fiona Duncan and the Clyde Valley Stompers, to name but a few!
