Robin Swann MLA, Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and his party’s candidate for Westminster for North Antrim has challenged the Stormont Executive “to give its whole-hearted backing to two new much-needed family support projects for children with heart conditions”.
Assemblyman Swann is UUP Chief Whip, and Chairman of the Stormont All Party Group on Congenital Heart Disease.
He issued his challenge to the Executive as he applauded the work of Children’s Heartbeat Trust, after attending the launch of its next two family support services.
Mr Swann said: “The first being the Family Heart Book, which from personal experience I feel is a great idea.
“It allows a family to plot their child’s experience from initial diagnosis, to surgery, to hospital stays, through painting pictures, using photos, and more importantly involving other brothers and sisters who may often feel side-lined.
“The first book is aimed at children up to five-years-old, with another two to follow. I would also ask my Constituents to contact the Health Minister to voice their support for these tremendous projects.
“The second initiative is a family support service where any member of a ‘heart family’ can contact a professional to gain counselling support, to help them with any emotional or stressful issues.
“Since becoming involved with Children’s Heartbeat Trust, I am truly amazed and thankful for the support they give, and the parents and family network ensure that they are in touch with what is needed,” said Assemblyman Swann.
