Summer recitals at St Patrick’s!

Local artists will be joined by well known musicians from across the Province at this year’s ‘Summer Music’ at St Patrick’s Church, Coleraine.

The event hosts a series of summer recitals and there is something for everyone.

Commencing on July 2, Bangor woman Gillian McCutheon will be joined by Nicky Johnston and Michael Harrison for the first recital of the summer at the Church Street place of worship.

The trio will entertain with violin, clarinet and cello.

All of the recitals will commence at 12.30 and will last around forty minutes at St Patrick’s Church.

Harpist Ruth Corry is next on the line up on July 9.

Ruth has toured Ireland and Europe as a member of the award winning Irish Harp Orchestra and even performed with Alfie Boe in the Waterfront Hall.

David McCann will feature on July 16, he’s currently the principal cellist of the Jersey Chamber Orchestra, and works regularly with the Ulster Orchestra.

On July 23, Gail Evans, Caroline Jones and Fiona Flynn - this trio are truly entertaining.

Coleraine singer Helen Aiken will be performing alongside Donal McCrisken on July 30.

Helen is well known in her home town and has featured on BBC Radio 2’ as a guest soloist.

She’s a multiple winner at music festivals and is widely acclaimed for performing in many roles. Joining Helen will be Donal McCrisken, he is a pianist, conductor, examiner and adjudicator and is currently the conductor of Cappella Caeciliana.

The ‘Summer Music’ recitals continue into August, the line up features Ian Mills ( August 6), an organ player who is the Uk’s youngest cathedral organist.

Cambridge graduate, Michael McHale will feature on August 13. Michael has performed in many different musical venues around the world and also for international television and radio broadcasters.

The pupils of Peter Wilson will perform on August 20.

Peter taught music in Friends’s School Lisburn and Portadown. Peter and his family moved to the North Coast 13 years ago and at that point Peter set up a large practice working both in Coleraine High School and from his home. He specialists not only in piano tuition but also in the field of music theatre and his pupils range from the age of six to 60 years old.

Peter is looking forward to allowing his pupils to use St Patrick’s to show case both their instrumental and vocal talents.

The Garde Piano Trio will conclude the summer of recitals on August 23.

The Parish of St Patrick’s and St Andrew’s will be holding the following Sunday services: 9am: Traditional Holy Communion in St Patrick’s (except the first Sunday of the month); 10am: Daybreak - the St Patrick’s Parish Centre, accessible to all ages. It’s an informal place to meet, have breakfast and worship together; 11am: Parish Praise - St Patrick’s and St Andrew’s, Ballysally, and 6pm: evening celebration in St Patrick’s.
