Strike! Work begins on bowling alley

Permission had been granted for the eighteen lane bowling alley a number of years ago and the first sod was cut back in 2012.

Now work has begun on the building and the developer, Joe Tumelty of Lisburn Bowl Limited, hopes the centre will be open by Easter 2015.

Edwin Poots MLA and Alderman Paul Porter have worked closely with Lisburn Bowl Limited to bring this project to Lisburn.

Welcoming the £2.5 million investment they said “this development is a major vote of confidence in the Lisburn Leisureplex/Omniplex facility.

“An eighteen lane bowling alley will be a major attraction to one of Northern Ireland’s top leisure facilities.

“There has been extensive work to bring this project to fruition, and we are delighted that the facility is scheduled to be operational before Easter.

“We will continue to look at how we can further expand the offer at the Leisureplex/Omniplex.

“The mix that currently exists between the public and private sector has proven to be effective in the development of the park, with Lisburn City Council currently refurbishing the Leisure Centre creating a new soft play are, gym with a significant upgrade of the leisure pool.”

Lisburn Bowl Limited said they are excited that the project is at an advanced stage.

“We have been working on it for a number of years and would like to thank Ulster Bank Ltd and Lisburn City Council for its cooperation, particularly the Corporate and Leisure Services Departments and a number of Councillors who helped the project,” said Mr Tumelty.

“We especially thank Edwin Poots MLA and Alderman Paul Porter who have worked closely and intensively with us.”
