St James’s girls speak their way to success

A GROUP of Girls’ Brigade members from St James’s Presbyterian Church in Ballymoney have proved they very definitely have a way with words!

For the 14 girls recently took second place in the whole of Northern Ireland in the Northern Ireland Choral Speaking finals held in Wallace High School in Lisburn.

Aged from just four years old up to eight, the tiny talkers impressed the adjudicator with their rendition of the poem “There are big waves”.

Girls’ Brigade officer and choral group conductor Catherine Finney told the Times: “We started to practice the piece just before Christmas. The girls learned off the piece and then I have to put my interpretation to it.

“They perform the piece using only facial expression and their voices.

“There were 20 others teams in the competition so they were delighted to come second. There was some noise coming home in the bus!”
