Sports extension to JDLC considered by council

An extension to the sports hall at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre is being considered by Ballymoney Borough Council.

The project would form part of the council’s 2014/2015 Capital Programme and if given approval would meet a pressing need for facilities principally for Ballymoney Hockey Club.

At a previous meeting the council had considered bringing temporary changing facilities back into operation and had asked for costs to be brought forward.

However, at last week’s monthly meeting it was agreed that the council should take a different course and consider the provision of a sports hall extension to the JDLC as part of the Capital programme and that in the meantime no action be taken on the temporary changing rooms.

Council were told that some initial work has been carried out regarding the temporary changing facilities, however it was suggested that further consideration be given to this project before a decision was made regarding the temporary changing facilities. Drawings are to be made available and all avenues for grant aid would be explored.
