Queen sends letter of thanks

During a Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council meeting, members heard that a letter had been sent from Buckingham Palace to mayor Maura Hickey.

Her Majesty also thanked Council for being given the opportunity to meet with the family of Robert Quigg VC and visit the Royal Portrush Golf Club.

Dated June 29, the letter, sent by Edward Young, The Deputy Private Secretary to The Queen, stated: “The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have asked me to thank you for your excellent support in making their visit to the village of Bushmills and to the Royal Portrush Golf Club yesterday such a success. The commemorative service and unveiling of a statue in memory of Sergeant Robert Quigg VC on the eve of the anniversary of the Somme was extremely moving, and I know that Her Majesty and His Royal Highness was pleased to have the opportunity of meeting the members of the Quigg family afterwards.

“The lunch at the Royal Portrush Golf Club was truly excellent and the pre-lunch reception provided a wonderful opportunity for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh to meet members of the local community. Her Majesty and His Royal Highness are very much aware of the great amount of effort involved in putting together a visit and lunch of this nature and have asked me to send their thanks and good wishes to you, James McCorkell, Leonard Quigg, the Royal Portrush Golf Club and all of those members of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council who were involved in this special day.”

During the tour the Royal couple visited Bushmills, Coleraine, Portrush, the Giant’s Causeway and Bellarena.
