Put onprobation for 12 months

Michael Wylie (28), Church Road, Portadown admitted resisting a police constable and assaulting an officer on April 11 this year.

The court heard that on April 11 at around midnight received a complaint about a domestic incident and when they arrived at the scene the defendant was in a bedroom.

Wylie was in an upstairs bedroom with a golf club and said that he was not leaving the house.

He was told he was in breach of a warrant and he would be leaving the house but he refused to co-operate and he warned police that if they came close he would use the golf club which was sitting beside him.

Wylie then grabbed the club and refused to put it down. It had to be pulled from him by several officers.

Wylie also spat in the direction of one of the officers.

Mr Hugo Marley, representing the defendant, said that Wylie was heavily intoxicated and had not taken his medication.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, added that Wylie an alcohol counselling and treatment programme.
