£3k worth of tackle stolen from fishery

Police are investigating a burglary at Straid Fishery last week during which thousands of pounds worth of tackle was stolen.

It’s believed thieves entered the premises sometime between 11.30pm on Tuesday, June 25 and 9am the following day.

“Fishing rods valued at around £3,000 and a small sum of cash in coins were taken,” a PSNI spokesperson confirmed.

It’s understood that the fishery had just brought in 40 new rods to take to the Shane’s Castle Game Fair and all were stolen.

The stolen items included Diawa Signature, Wilderness XT, Wilderness ST, Truflight and Shakespeare Sigma rods, as well as Shakespeare Sigma fly reels, Airflo Delta fly reels, Airflo cassette reels, Airflo Velocity lines and Airflo Sixth Sense lines.

Anyone with information about the burglary, or who is offered items for sale in suspicious circumstances, is asked to contact police on 0845 600 8000.
