‘Prehistoric’ Carrick find

A SHOCK find of human remains in Market Place may have opened up a path to Carrick’s previously undiscovered prehistoric past.

Archaelogists, working on the site stumbled upon a year ago during power cable preparation, have made amazing discoveries in recent days that point to the area’s ancient origins.

The excavation at Market Place, which opened at the beginning of this month, has uncovered a wealth of items from the medieval period, including a number of pieces of pottery.

The site beside St Nicholas’ Church had previously undergone excavation in August 2010 after skeletons were found during trench digging for a NIE electricity substation.
