Golfers swing into action in memory of former Carrickfergus footballer

Former council colleagues have been thanked for organising a tournament at Carrickfergus Golf Course today (Friday) in memory of Stuart Hilditch.

The Stuart Hilditch Memorial Golf Tournament has attracted participants from Mid and East Antrim Council’s technical services depot, Northern Ireland Supporters’ Club members and representatives of a number of golf societies with which the former footballer and firefighter was associated.

Speaking beforehand Stuart’s father, David Hilditch MLA, said: “Thank you to the organisers who have put so much effort in and best wishes to everyone taking part.

“The sun is shining, the banner is up and we’re all ready for the off at the big day , best wishes everyone.”

Stuart, a 38-year-old father of three died, in September of last year after a long battle with cancer. He was a popular figure in the Co Antrim town, having played football for Carrick Rangers, Barn Utd, Islandmagee and Wellington Rec.
