Dean Forde served as a popular rector of Larne and Inver with Glynn and Raloo from 1999 until his installation as Dean of Belfast in 2018.

The traditional Black Santa appeal raises monies for a variety of good causes and 200 charities will benefit from the 2020 sit-out among them Christian Aid, and organisations working with the elderly, people affected by unemployment and homelessness.

Although the appeal was hit by Covid-19 restrictions, the amount raised increased from 2019 when £170,000 was donated by the public.

Dean Forde said the amount raised was “quite amazing”, given the Covid-19 restrictions.

Meanwhile, Carrickfergus RAFA branch said it was delighted to have received a £1,000 donation towards the 2021 Wings Appeal campaign from the initiative

Wing Commander Noel Williams, the branch’s appeal organiser, said: “It has been a very difficult time for charities during Covid-19, but ironically the Dean’s sit-out raised more money last Christmas than it did in 2019.

“We are delighted to have received such a generous donation and want to publicly thank the Very Reverend Stephen Forde, Dean of Belfast, and his super sit-out team for all they do in the name of charity.”
