Local Council Candidate Leanne Peacock is calling for Roads Service to install road humps in Bamford Park and make the estate into a 20mph zone.
Miss Peacock said: “I have been approached by Bamford Park Residents in recent times who are concerned about the speed of traffic in their estate.
“Due to the fact that there are so many children in the area both resident and/or attending Rasharkin Primary School, Rasharkin Nursery School or Rasharkin After Schools Club this is a very serious issue for local parents. Both myself and local parents are of the opinion that traffic should be forced to slow down in such close proximity to so many children.
“I have met Roads Service who have agreed to carry out assessments to determine whether or not the area is suitable for Road Humps however have yet to agree to make the area a 20mph zone.
“Residents feel very strongly about this issue: it is the safety of their children at stake and I will continue to support them on this issue. I will continue to lobby Roads Service for this to happen as soon as possible for the safety of our local children.”
