Over the limit driver drove into town to help his girlfriend

Even though he had drink taken a 25-year-old man drove into Lurgan to leave the car so his girlfriend could drive home.

Conor O’Neill, Leansmount Road, was banned from driving for 12 months last Friday at Craigavon Court for excess alcohol.

He was also fined £150 and. If he completes a course for drink driving the ban would be reduced to nine months.

He was stopped by police in Castle Lane, and an evidential test gave a reading of 79.

Defence said that on the night in question his girlfriend, who worked in a bar in Lurgan, was experiencing difficulties with customers.

He decided to drive the car to Lurgan to leave for his girlfriend, who had a key, to drive home.
