Outgoing chairman says thanks

It’s the enthusiasm and goodwill of its residents that makes Banbridge district one of the best places to live.

So said outgoing Banbridge District Council Chairman Olive Mercer at last week’s council AGM as she thanked all who supported her in the role..

Chief among them was her family, outgoing vice-chairman and fellow Dromore Councillor Hazel Gamble and her party and council colleagues.There were thanks too for Chief Executive Pat Cumiskey, his predecessor Liam Hannaway and all council staff.

She added: “I have been very privileged to have held the position of Chairman of Banbridge District Council in its penultimate year, the year in which we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the formation of Banbridge District Council. I greatly appreciated the opportunity to serve the District in this role and I have had the honour of attending many events and milestones.”

Councillor Mercer remembered those who had experienced sadness and loss, spoke of her of gratitude and privilege at being part of community celebrations and highlighted the achievements of the district’s dedicated volunteers and sporting heroes.

She wished her successor, Councillor Marie Hamilton, every success in the coming year.
