Mindfulness will be the theme of a talk at the next Cancer Focus Northern Ireland breast cancer support group on Thursday 12th February at 7.30pm at Rathain Fold, Union Street, Coleraine.
The guest speaker will be Dr Nuala Brady, Clinical Psychologist with the Psycho-Oncology Team at Antrim Area Hospital. She will be speaking on Coping – Using Mindfulness.
There will also be a meeting at the same venue on 16th April at 7.30pm when BBC NI producer Letitia Fitzpatrick, who is also a motivational speaker and actor, will speak on the topic Surviving Depression.
Valerie Magowan, Cancer Focus NI’s locally based counsellor, will facilitate the meetings.
The support group is complementary to any ongoing medical treatment and aims to help patients develop a holistic approach to living with cancer.
Deirdre Conlon, Cancer Focus NI Care Services Manager, said: “The support group is open to anyone who has breast cancer as well as carers, family and friends and we extend a very warm welcome to all new members. There’s no commitment to attend each session and everyone is welcome to come as often and for as long as they wish.
“The support group meetings are informal and there is no pressure to speak about your experiences - you can just come along and listen to what is being said. Patients in the past have gained a lot from talking to people who are in, or have been in, a similar situation as this can help to reduce feelings of anxiety, fear and isolation and improve quality of life.”
Light refreshments will also be available. For further information or to confirm your attendance please call Care Services Coordinator Eileen Creery at Cancer Focus NI on 028 9068 0742 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
