No concerns over protest at parade

A SENIOR member of the Apprentice Boys says he has no concerns over a Republican protest due to be held in the same area as the Relief of the City celebrations.

General Secretary Billy Moore says Apprentice Boys clubs from across the area will be coming together "in strength" on Saturday despite confirmation from 32 County Sovereignty Movement, that a regular weekly picket would go ahead on August 14.

Mr Moore dismissed suggestions that trouble could flare on the day as Republicans refused to move the parade after a call from the senior member last week.

Thousands will descend upon the city for the annual celebrations on the Relief of the City at the end of the Siege in 1689.

Speaking to the Sentinel, Mr Moore said: "This protest has absolutley nothing to do with the parade.

"I have great faith that those who do travel to the city to cause trouble will be adequately dealt with by the police.

He continued: "There are no concerns whatsoever by those travelling to Londonderry to commemorate and celebrate. We are looking forward to an enjoyable day, and also a profitable day for our traders."

Mr Moore confirmed that four clubs from Limavady Borough would be travelling to attend the parade.
