New Year's honour for local people

Amongst those who received honours were PSNI Inspector Rosemary Leech who is originally from Lisburn, former Railway Street Presbyterian Church organist Peter Wilson, Lagan Valley Hospital Lead Midwife Zoe Boreland, and Lisnagarvey Operatic Society director Wilfie Pyper.

An MBE has been awarded to Inspector Rosie Leech, nee Cromie, for Services to Policing and the Community in Northern Ireland. Inspector Rosie Leech has over 25 years’ service. During this time she has made an outstanding contribution to Roads Policing in Northern Ireland. She has worked with a range of Government Departments, Police Services and Key Stakeholders in assisting to draft new legislation all aimed at making Northern Ireland’s roads safer. In her daily role Inspector Leech is responsible for overseeing a number of multi-agency projects to teach young people about road safety.

Mr Peter Wilson was awarded the BEM for services to community cohesion in Northern Ireland through music. The former Glenavy man. who now lives in Coleraine, was organist of Railway Street Presbyterian Church for 26 years. Peter taught music at Friends’ School, Lisburn and was later appointed Head of the Music Department at Portadown College.

Zoe Boreland was awarded an MBE for services to midwifery and Wilfie Pyper received an MBE for services to musical theatre and drama.
