'Mystery tour' ends in court appearance

A STUDENT on a pre-Christmas 'mystery tour' with friends kicked a Mini car causing more than £1,000 damage, Magherafelt Magistrates Court heard.

Before the court was Ryan Patrick Keenan (24), of Ardbana Terrace, Coleraine, who was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.

Keenan admitted charges of disorderly behaviour and criminal damage at Garden Street, Magherafelt, on December 2 last.

When asked by District Judge Bernie Kelly what the cost of the damage was, a PPS lawyer said the owner of the vehicle had presented a bill for 1,288.

A defence solicitor said Keenan had been on one of six coaches taking part in a 'mystery tour' that had arrived in Magherafelt.

He explained that the defendant had been off drink, but on this occasion had consumed six pints and half a bottle of vodka.

The solicitor said Keenan would say he had just kicked the side panel in the car.

District Judge Kelly ordered Keenan to pay 1,000 compensation to the owner of the vehicle.
