Have you ever wanted to express your views about who you are and where you live, but haven’t found the right time, place or opportunity to do it effectively?
Moyle District Council’s Good Relations Programme is now offering the chance to do just that through ‘My Culture & Me’ – a series of workshops tailored to give the people of Moyle a chance to explore their views on their own and other cultures, and what living in Moyle it means to them.
During October, November and December, ‘My Culture & Me’ will see three free workshops take place in each of the Causeway, Ballycastle and Glens areas. Using the creative mediums of drama and art, the participants will examine their views on their own and on the other cultures that exist in Moyle today, looking at what they mean to both themselves and to others.
Each full-day workshop will begin with a morning drama session where drama techniques and activities will be used to explore cultural identity in a fun and interactive way. After lunch (which will be provided), an arts/sculpture workshop will see participants design and make their own “character” which represents the area they live in.
It is planned that the final pieces will then be put on display during a celebration showcase event for all the workshops participants in January 2012.
The ‘My Culture & Me’ workshops will take place on the following days: Causeway Area Workshop: Saturday 22nd October, 9.30-5pm in Bushmills Community Centre, Bushmills.
The Glens Area Workshop: Saturday 19th November, 9.30-5pm in the Old Schoolhouse, Cushendall.
The Ballycastle Area: Saturday 3rd December, 9.30-5pm in Moyle District Council Offices, Sheskburn House Ballycastle
Places are limited for these fun and interesting workshops so if you are over 14 years of age and would like the opportunity to take part in a project that gives you the opportunity to learn more your own and other cultures, meet others from your area and develops your artistic skills in a totally unique way then get in touch now!
