MLA condemns ‘sectarian graffiti’ at Castlerock

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has condemned those responsible for sectarian graffiti at the Barmouth at Castlerock.

The East Derry MLA said: “Sectarian graffiti was daubed on a beacon at the Barmouth at Castlerock.

“This is not protest, it is totally offensive and sectarian graffiti is utterly unacceptable in any society.

“I have reported it as a hate crime to the police and I will be seeking to have it removed immediately. I would appeal to anyone with information to contact the PSNI.”

The MLA also said she had met with senior police to discuss the policing response “following the violent events in Belfast last week and anti-community behaviour by loyalists in Coleraine.

“With reports that there is potential for further loyalist protests, we emphasised the need for a proactive approach from the PSNI and for engagement with political and community representatives to prevent further anti-community behaviour.”
