McAfee Auctions sale of Art

McAfee Auctions sale of Art, takes place next week in there Ballymoney Sale Rooms, and this sale which mainly represents works from Irish Artists past and present also include two private collections.

Among the works, are three works by J W Carey, the layout, a watercolour 28” x 20” of a ‘Market Day’ is a particular fine example of his work as one of the two others 17” x 7” approximately of ‘The Gobbins’ and a local landscape.

Two particular fine works by Julian Friers are also included, both watercolours and measuring 10” x 14.5”, one of a ‘Woodcock in the Snow’ and the other of a ‘Woodcock Feeding’ are according to Gerry McAfee is sure to wet the appetite of Julian Friers art collectors.

A large George Smyth 48” x 60” is also included as are works by Gordon King, Arthur Twells, R B Higgins, Des Murrie, W H Burns, Donal McNaughton, Aylmer Armstrong, William Cunningham etc.

A very fine pair of oils by T Barrett in heavy gilt frame, hang alongside one by E Nicholl, M Coward ‘Horses Jumping’, a still life by Moira Muir, and an E Duncan of ‘Winching the Boat’.

Also among the works from the private collection, are works by Oliver Clare, D W Hadden, Phillip Henry, Max Parsons, W Huston, Joy Clements, T B Hardy and Owen Bowen.

Among the works is fantastic oil by the late Portrush artist Frank Hargy, the oil measuring 21.5” x 16” and titled ‘Through the Eye of a Needle’, is a really good representation of Hargys work and man really well known for his banner paintings. Commenting on the picture the auctioneer Gerry McAfee said ‘that it is difficult to value a work of this quality by the artist, but we have realistically estimated it at £800 - £1,200.

Two other works by the late W J Watson are also included in the sale, as are two works by the popular John Trickett. Other artists represented are Tom McGoldrick, Noel Shaw, J P Rooney, Mark McMeekin, Fran Fitt, Des Murrie, Carrie O’Duinn, Con Campbell, Gerry Glynn, Colin Flack, Gregory Moore, Judith Huey, Lorna Millar, Denis Ormeshaw etc.
