McAfee Auctions Irish Art sale

PREPARATIONS are well in hand for McAfee Auctions next sale of Irish art, from many of Ireland's leading artists, past and present.

The sale, scheduled for Thursday, April 29 in the Ballymoney sale rooms include works by Charles McAuley, Frank Egginton, Keiran McGoran, John Faulkner, Hamilton Sloan, R B Higgins, Edgar Brundy, Michael O’Neill, Noel Shaw, Bobbie Anderson, J W Carey, Neil Shawcross, Ross Wilson, Tom Carr, Desmond Kinney, Tom Kerr, D G Hughes, Fran Fit, William Cunningham, Tom Quinn, Liam Reilly, Lorna Millar, James McKendry, Richard Faulkner, Gavin Fitzsimmons, Jack Wilkinson, Desmond Hickey and Pat Cowley.

There is a particularly fine work by Charles McAuley titled ‘The Time of Day’, an oil is estimated at 3,500 to 4,500 and is, according to auctioneer, Gerry McAfee, “one of the best he has seen on the open market for quite some time”.

A very good watercolour of one of his own horses, entitled ‘Roseyards Royal Salute’, by the late Rev W J Watson is also included.

While the sale is mainly of Irish works there are two fine oils by John Tricket, the first titled ‘Raving To Go’ and the other of a collie dog ‘Ready and Waiting’, estimated at 2,500 to 3,000 and a pair of oils by English artist, Donna Shawcross, estimated at 700 to 800 each.

Gerry adds: “It is a particulary good sale with something for everyone.”

The sale takes place at 7.40pm with viewing on Tuesday, April 27 from 7.00pm to 8.30pm and on Wednesday, April 28 from 3.00pm to 5.00pm and 7.00pm to 8.30pm and on the day of sale from 4.00pm.
