Mayor Brenda Stevenson hopes the Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will attend a meeting she will convene tomorrow (Thursday) to develop a united strategy for expanding Magee.

The Mayor welcomed Mr McGuinness’ statement that he intends meeting with the University Minister Dr Stephen Farry regarding the decision to put on hold the expansion of Magee.

She commented: “As Mayor of the city I welcome the fact that the Deputy First Minister has put this important issue high on his agenda and is going to make representations to Minister Farry outlining the need for the expansion to go ahead for the economic benefit of the city and region.”

Referring to tomorrow’s meeting, she added: “The meeting has been set up to discuss the next step forward in dealing with this important issue and the Deputy First Minister, MEPS, MLAs have all been invited to attend.

“It is important that the political voices of this city unite together to make a strong case for the expansion of the University of Ulster at Magee.”
