Ballymoney Evergreen Club announced that it has received £4,700 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), through their First World War: then and now programme, for an exciting project, entitled ‘Sharing the Learning.
Following on from a very successful visit to the Battlefields of France and Belguim last August, the club members have developed this new project to work with other groups and schools in the area to explore the local First World War heritage. The project will commence early in 2015 and will conclude in June 2015.
Everyone taking part in the project will create memory books and videos to showcase what they have learnt through their study visits and other activities. The young people will also pass on what they have learnt to their peers and members of their school/youth group so that as many young people as possible can benefit from the project.
Commenting on the award, Miss Isobel Dunlop, Project Co-Ordinator and Treasurer of Ballymoney Evergreen Club said “We are delighted to receive the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident that our unique project which involves both intergenerational and interdenominational participants will improve the understanding of ALL regarding the events of WW1 and how it impacted on the local community.”
Head of the HLF in the Northern Ireland, Paul Mullan, said: “We were delighted to support this engaging intergenerational project exploring the First World War.”
