Local students honoured 
at SEELB awards ceremony

Students from Lisburn were amongst those honoured at the recent South Eastern Education and Library Board’s Outstanding Awards evening.

The evening celebrated the many achievements of over 73 children and young people in the SEELB area.

Both School and Youth Awards celebrated the diversity of achievement in the SEELB and included: The Arts, Service to the Community, Pupils of Courage, Sport – Individual, Participation and Team, Academic Success, Youth Achievement, Full Attendance, The Tom Nolan Memorial Award for Poetry and the winner of the Board’s Christmas Card competition.

The evening was compared by BBC TV Personality, Donna Traynor. The programme included performances from three Award Winners (Vocal Solo, Singing Solo and Violin Solo).

In attendance on the evening were approximately 275 children and young people, parents, school principals, youth leaders, VIPs, SEELB Commissioners and public representatives.

Sponsorship for the event was provided by Fujitsu, Translink, the Department of Education, Castlereagh Borough Council and Lisburn City Council.

SEELB Chief Executive, Gregory Butler, commented: “This annual event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and applaud the achievements of many of our young people.

“The Board is delighted that, with the support of our sponsors, it has once again been possible to organise this evenings ceremony to acknowledge the diversity of achievement and incredible talents and skills within schools and youth services across the Board’s area.”
