Local posties gear up for annual charity van pull and collection

BIG-HEARTED posties in Ballymoney are hoping for a first-class response to their annual charity fundraiser which will be staged at various intervals in the coming weeks.

Top of the agenda is the street collection and van pull which will take place at 2pm on Thursday, September 11 and the following day. The route for the van pull will leave the sorting office at 2pm on the Friday and take in the main thoroughfares in the town with up to 20 posties participating.

Traditionally, the public respond well to the postie volunteers whose efforts in the last seven years has raised a staggering £30,000 for Cancer Research NI.

Local man, Mervyn Ferris, is delighted with the fact that his charity will benefit again this year and has urged people to respond generously.

“This is an event which means a great deal to us and we know that the boys will do well,” Mr. Ferris said.

For the van pull, volunteers will be donning fancy dress which will undoubtedly add to the spectacle.

Ballymoney postie, Adrian Nicholl, organiser of the event explained: “The van pull is an important part of our charity work and since it’s going to a very worthy cause, we are confident of raising several thousand pounds.

“The workforce in Ballymoney are certainly geared up for the two days and we hope to have a great deal of fun. Next Thursday will be the street collection and then the van pull will be on Friday. This is the first year we have held the van pull on a Friday and we are hoping its going to be an even bigger success.

“Last year we collected £3,700 which was great...we are hoping everyone will dig deep again this year and give generously - over £1,000 has been raised so far. Postman Pat will also be making a special guest appearance at both events - please come along and say hello!”

A Big Breakfast, golf day and much more will also be taking place in aid of the charity, and it will be taking place over the coming weeks. So watch this space for more details.
