Lisburn has fourth highest average debt level

Lisburn has the fourth highest average debt level in Northern Ireland, according to a debt charity.

Advice NI revealed the figures after its debt service launched its annual report at Stormont Hotel.

The charity fears that any increase in interest rates will leave thousands of homeowners struggling with debt.

Debt Action NI helped over 5,200 clients deal with over £62 million in debt including £14 million of mortgage debt between April 2013 and March 2014. Last year Debt Action NI dealt with over £13m of mortgage shortfall debt.
