Ballymoney man Joe Donaghy has been honoured locally after being recognised by Her Majesty the Queen in the Birthday Honours List.
Mr Donaghy, who is chairman of the Board of Governors at Our Lady of Lourdes School in the town received the MBE back in June. He was also cited for his services to education in Northern Ireland.
During a special ceremony held at OLOL, Miss E Gillan, Acting Principal explained: “Since I joined this school community, I have always known Mr Donaghy be a man of quiet determination who gives up his time selflessly to help others.
“Joe has been a cornerstone of our community throughout these past years and has always been available to advise on an informal basis over a cup of tea or able to bring his invaluable expertise and experience to the forefront when needed in a more formal capacity.
“We, the staff, parents, pupils and Board of Governors remain indebted to him for all his hard work and service over the years, for Our Lady of Lourdes High School, the Ballymoney Learning Community and for his service to education in Northern Ireland.
“We are all delighted that he has finally received formal recognition of his diligent, efficient and loyal service to the local community. The award of an MBE is a fitting tribute and he should be justifiably proud of his tremendous achievements which have only come about through his passion and dedication.”
