Hayley hot on the heels of footwear success

FAMOUS shoe brands looking for young and talented designers need to look no further, as another successful Northern Regional College, Foundation Art and Design student from Magherafelt has been accepted into De Montfort University in Leicester, to study footwear design.

Hayley Dripp’s will follow in the footsteps of Nicola Gilmore, a former NRC Art & Design student who after completion of her degree course went on to design footwear for Schuh and is a currently a shoe designer for the giant retailer Next.

There are only two courses in the UK that specialise in footwear, with De Montfort University leading the way. Haley plans to study for a BA Hons Degree in Footwear Design.

“Like every girl, I love shoes. What can be more exciting than to design something that you love! My interest in shoe design extends back to my BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design course where we were given a fashion project and I designed handbags and shoes,” she said.

“I am now studying the Foundation Art and Design course at the college and I have learnt many new techniques and developed strong design development skills. All of my work came together for me this year, which helped steer me towards shoe design and a place at the university.

“I am very grateful to all of the NRC Lecturers who have supported me on my journey and I am looking forward to becoming a designer in the future.”

Donna Lynch, Foundation Art and Design Team Leader commenting on Hailey’s success said: “We at NRC are extremely proud of Hayley and her achievements. She has a very strong portfolio that helped gain her an unconditional offer onto a very competitive course and we are all very privileged to have been part of the process”.
