Haughian is backing charity Olympic event

TOP boxer Stephen Haughian is urging the people of Craigavon and Lurgan to get active and have fun whilst raising funds for local charity NI Chest Heart and Stroke (NICHS).

The charity, along with Sport NI’s Active Communities Lottery Funded Initiative, are holding a decathlon-style Olympic challenge at Craigavon Ski and Watersports Centres over three days – April 28, May 12 and May 26.

This event includes exhilarating sports such as kayaking, climbing, skiing and archery.

The Olympic Challenge will raise funds for the charity’s support services, including its local Stroke, Cardiac and Respiratory groups, which help sufferers of chest, heart and stroke illnesses.

More than half of all deaths in Northern Ireland are caused by chest, heart or stroke illness - more than 20 every day – and NICHS is committed to ensuring that this number is substantially reduced.

Carla Smyth, Fundraising Co-ordinator for NI Chest Heart and Stroke said: “The Olympic Challenge is a great way to have fun whilst experiencing an array of exciting sports.

“It is open to people of all abilities to raise funds and improve their own fitness and just have a great time.

“We are so grateful for Sport NI for giving us this fantastic opportunity.”
