Glengormley Methodist Harvest celebration

GLENGORMLEY Methodist Church resounded to a variety of sounds and sights over the weekend with an action packed programme to cater for the physical and spiritual well-being of its members and the community.

Alderman Paula Bradley, in her capacity as Mayor of Newtownabbey, was welcomed to the Church Health Fair by Rev. Mervyn Kilpatrick, and took up the opportunity to have a full range of health checks, courtesy of Medicare and the Diabetic Society.

The Mayor spent considerable time with a range of agencies which had volunteered to attend in the common purpose of delivering a more stable society - police, drug workers, parents advice, cancer warnings, hand washing, warm homes, fitness were all addressed for a footfall of over 150 people.

Children and adults forsook their usual Saturday night TV to take in two movies at the Church Movie Night - 'Amazing Grace' tracked the political and Christian campaign to eliminate slavery, while the children were entertained to 'Up'.

Rev. Des Bain from Dublin spoke at the church Harvest services to packed congregations, complimenting the leaders on giving a donation to World Development instead of the traditional Harvest decorations, as the church gears up for its 75th Anniversary celebrations in November.
