The free seven-week programme, run in conjunction with PAL, aims to educate young people aged 12-18 years on how to tackle drugs, both legal and illegal, and anti-social behaviour.

Gareth told the Times: “We will have at least 20 young people on our course, and we have had interest from the parents of a couple of kids who are currently 11 years old but who will turn 12 during the course or shortly after.

“These kids are making the transition from primary to secondary school at a time when they can make new friends and fall in with an older crowd, so we felt it was a good time to take them on the course,” said Gareth.

“Applications will be open until Monday July 6 and we would urge any young people or their parents who are interested to apply.”

The “Get wise to highs” course will be held at Greenland Community centre. Sessions will take place on July 8, 22, 29 and August 5, 12, 19 and 26. They will run from 5pm-7pm. To enrol, contact Gareth McConnell on 02828276210 or 0775336 8278. Or contact PAL on 02828273335.
