This picture appeared on Page 3 of the paper on January 16, thirty years ago on Friday.

In that edition the paper reported on the plight of the Molins workers at Maydown who were left on tenterhooks over their jobs prospects after the company announced its intention of closing the plant.

The paper also reported on a accusations of discrimination by Derry City Council and a complaint by the then DUP Councillor Gregory Campbell about the BBC’s “inadequate coverage of the reported cases of discrimination in Londonderry.”

The front page of the same edition also reported on a robbery of a bridal boutique in Carlisle Road and of a RUC dawn raid that resulted in eight arrests in Creggan, the Bogside, Shantallow and Ardmore.

The paper also carried a story about the fate of staff at the Littlewoods store in the city after the retailer announced it would be slashing 1,000 jobs nationally.
