Flag thefts will not be tolerated say Police

POlICE in Coleraine say that they are determined to stop the recent spate of attacks on homes.

In the past few months 11 homes in the area have been attacked, some had flags stolen others had sectarian graffiti sprayed on their premises.

Last week, Coleraine District Commander, Chief Inspector Nicky Thompson reasured the public that the police are doing all they can to halt the attacks.

He said: “Firstly, I would like to reassure people that these sorts of attacks on property are not tolerated by police.

“We are working hard to identify the offenders and have increased patrols in the areas affected. I would ask that anyone who can help with the investigations, particularly taxi drivers working late at night, come forward.

“Incursions onto peoples property and theft and vandalism are sinister and are unsettling for the victim. It is also a cowardly way to make some sort of political statement. Each and every victim has been contacted by our Crime Prevention Officer and we will be providing practical security measures on a case by case basis.
