Female soldiers from Coleraine to serve on frontline?

Female soldiers from Coleraine could be among the first to serve on the frontline in conflicts after a change in army combat rules.

The NI Squadron, which is based in Coleraine and Belfast, is gearing up their recruitment drive for the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry in the wake of the decision to allow female soldiers on the frontline.

The B Company of The Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry is equipped with heavily armoured land rovers developed in the wake of operations in Afghanistan to give troops highly mobile and highly effective weaponry across all terrains.

The changes will be phased in, with the first women being introduced to the armoured crops by the end of 2016.

The change was brought about after two years of study.
