Exorna mark 36th birthday in style

EXORNA Women's Institute celebrated its 36th birthday in style with a sumptuous banquet at the Ramada Hotel in Portrush.

Ten founder members were among the attendance of over 40, all thoroughly enjoying the anniversary get-together, which was organised by Mrs Elsie Sawyers.

President, Mrs Jean Sherrard, said Exorna W.I. was still a vibrant unit.

However, there was no intention of resting on their laurels and there is a continuous drive to expand membership and generate new ideas to make group meetings more interesting and enjoyable.

Mrs Mabel Johnston won the top ballot prize of a beautiful flower arrangement, made by Mrs Mary McCahon.

Committee members donated other prizes and the winners were, Mrs Mabel Kennedy, Mrs Anne Campbell, Mrs Liz Mullan, Mrs Isobel Maton, Mrs Mildred McMullan, Mrs Liz Nesbitt and Mrs Olive McCarron.

A five-strong contingent represented Exorna at the Lower Bann Area An Grianan weekend at Drogheda.

Activities included cookery, flower arranging and talks on historic homes and local tours.

The birthday girl was Mrs Ann Lundy.

Mrs John Coulter won the “Longest Earring” competition and the runners up were Mrs Anne Campbell and Mrs Mabel Kennedy.
