Eddie in final of poetry competition

‘McNulty’s Old Buck Goat’ got the judges talking at the festival of humorous verse in Threemilehouse on Saturday night.

Eddie, who is passionate about poetry and has twice been a finalist in the Bard Of Armagh, was delighted with this latest success.

He was also a runner-up in the senior section of the Moy Library poetry competition. He has been a finalist and a subsequent runner-up in the Gig In The Bann ‘Bard Of The Bann’ contest.

And probably his most outstanding achievement to date has been his win in the Patrick MacGill poetry competition. The following year he achieved second place.

The MacGill competition is held annually in Glenties, Co Donegal, where there is a small museum displaying artefacts associated with MacGill’s life.

Patrick MacGill was born in extreme poverty near Glenties, yet he went on to find considerable fame as an author and poet. He served in the First World War and his poems vividly evoke the terrible reality of that conflict.

Eddie’s poems have appeared in various anthologies published by Forward Press, including ‘Northern Ireland Poets.’ His poetry has also appeared in the council sponsored anthologies ‘Thoughts In Words’ and ‘Moving On’ which arose out of council creative writing classes.

“I was pleased to get the letter telling me I was a finalist in The Bard Of Oriel,” he told the MAIL.
