'˜Dob' would be proud of you!

The seventh annual Dob’s Dander was held on October 31 last year to raise vital funds for Cancer Fund for Children, a charity that was very close to David’s heart.

As David who was called ‘Dob’ by his friends and family never had the chance to fulfil his ambition of raising money to support families affected by cancer, his wife Heather decided to hold an annual event around his birthday.

As with previous years the day of the walk had beautiful weather perfect for a family stroll along the North Coast and the community of Castlerock came out in force.

Children enjoyed a scavenger hunt along the way and afterwards participants enjoyed a legendary barbeque provided by Crusoe’s Café with meat provided free of charge by The Village Butcher.

Thanking the local community for their support Heather Baird said: “I know David would be so proud of all the people took part in our annual walk to raise money for children and families affected by cancer.

“ I would personally like to thank Roger Robinson of Crusoe’s Café who works tireless to support Dob’s Dander, as well as The Village Butcher, Exorna Filling Station, The Boatyard Coffee Shop, Alick Ford and Louise Hutchinson.”

Andy Boal Community Fundraiser added: “Heather does an amazing job organising Dob’s Dander every year with help from friends, family and the Castlerock community.

“ Over the last 7 years, she has raised nearly £9,000 in memory of David. What a legacy to leave.

“This money will help Cancer Fund for Children provide practical, emotional and financial support as well as therapeutic short breaks to families affected by cancer. Without the support from the local community we simply could not continue to provide these essential services to families whose lives have been shattered by cancer.”
