Discount retailer to open store in Ballyclare

POUNDLAND - Europe’s biggest single price discount retailer - is planning to open a new outlet in Ballyclare, it has been revealed.

The company confirmed this week that it is set to open a store in Ballyclare, but wouldn’t say exactly where it will be located, when it will open or how many jobs will be created.

Confirming the company’s interest in Ballyclare, Poundland’s Trading Director, David Coxon, said: “Poundland has grown significantly over the past 12 months and it’s fantastic to see this expansion continuing with a new store in Ballyclare. We’re looking forward to opening our doors.”

A spokesperson said that further details of Poundland’s move into Ballyclare will be made public in the next few weeks. However, she did say that there will be a family fun day, and possibly a celebrity guest, to mark the official opening of the new outlet.

Local councillor Jim Bingham said rumours have been circulating in the town that Poundland may take over the former Peacocks store on Main Street.

“If they do come it will be good news for the town. A lot of shops have closed and this would help the Main Street if they did take a unit there as it would draw more shoppers in to the town centre,” he commented.

Poundland has over 400 stores across the UK and sells an extensive range of high quality top brand and own brand products, including food and drink, health and beauty and household items, all for £1 each.
