Darren’s video is Youtube success

LOCAL film director Darren Lee has been catapulted to global success as his latest video for Silhouette’s hit single notched up more than 3,000 YouTube hits in less than 24 hours.

The award-winning director has been blown away by the immediate success of this latest video featuring the talented Shauna Tohill who is currently on tour singing with Snow Patrol.

Shauna from Magherafelt writes and performs as Silhouette.

Her song ‘Can’t Keep Up’, is enjoying huge success as the backing track to the hugely successful Discover NI TV ad campaign.

And she asked Lurgan man Darren Lee to work with her on the video for ‘Can’t Keep Up’ which is also getting lots of air play across radio stations in Ireland and the UK.

Darren, who has been a movie addict since a very young child, edited his first video aged 10 and it has been his passion since.

In 2006 he was making comedy shorts for an online gaming magazine.

However, when he won a script writing award he was asked over to Channel 4’s Skins as a junior writer.

His big break in the music industry came in 2009 when he directed his first video.

“It’s a niche I saw that didn’t have anyone else doing the job professionally and consistently,” said Darren.

“With the power of technology at hand I started Maverick Renegade Productions and became the first company in Northern Ireland that specialised in music videos.

“I got a huge break in LA. I had somehow landed in Snoop Dogg’s studio. I showed his producer one of my videos and he suggested I do a video for one of Snoop Dogg’s artists Latoiya Williams.

“I jumped straight on it and made some fantastic contacts out in LA,” he said.

“It’s crazy to think that my music videos have been seen over 300,000 times. Once it hits a million I’ll be very, very happy,” said Darren.

And with the success of this new video by Silhouette, he should be well on his way to hitting that target.
