Millburn petrol bomb attack is condemned

The incident took place at Cypress Drive, in the Millburn area, shortly after 11.10pm.

A petrol bomb was thrown through the kitchen window of a house, causing scorch damage. The three females in the house at the time were not injured.

The attack, which is being investigated by police, has been condemned by local politicians.

SDLP MLA John Dallat urged anyone with information on the attack to co-operate fully with police.

“This is the second time a petrol bomb has been thrown at this home. I welcome the PSNI investigation and urge anyone with information to co-operate fully with the investigating officers.

“It is critical that we discover who threw the petrol bomb, what the motivation was, and what anyone hopes to accomplish by this senseless act.

“Tensions have been rising in Coleraine over flags and this incident serves only to promote unrest. I would appeal to people to leave it to the PSNI to establish the facts and bring to court those responsible.”

Mr Dallat added: “I welcome the fact that local councillors and the police are to get together this month to address the flags issue. This is the only sensible way forward involving elected representatives, community leaders and the police. The Coleraine, Portrush, Portstewart area is set to benefit from a number of events including the Irish Open over the next few months. It is essential that none of that is marred by stupid acts of violence or sectarianism.

Alliance councillor Yvonne Boyle said she was ‘shocked’ by the incident.

“The people behind this attack obviously have no care for the consequences of their actions. I am sure that this was a scary incident for the women in the house at the time of the attack.”
