A Coleraine man was remanded into custody today, accused of having £60,000 of cocaine.

Appearing in the dock of Lisburn Magistrates Court, 53-year-old Lawrence McLaughlin confirmed he understood the two charges against him.

McLaughlin, from Buskin Way, is alleged to have possessed class A cocaine with intent to supply and simple possession of the drug on 20 November this year.

He was arrested on the Dundrod Road near Nutts Corner on Friday night when police uncovered the cocaine, estimated to be worth around £60,000, after searching a while.

On Monday a police officer told the court he believed he could connect McLaughlin to the charges.

District Judge Rosie Watters remanded McLaughlin into custody to appear again on 21 December via videolink.
